All business is about assessing and evaluating risk. But the lifeblood of the property & casualty insurance (P&C) sector is identifying and mitigating risk. And, despite its perception as a staid and relatively unchanging industry, P&C is currently on the precipice of an enormous transformation. Challenges in the form of competition from new insurtech players, an upcoming “brain drain,” the commoditization of insurance itself, and the changing, more sophisticated demands of customers are fundamentally upending the industry. In my current role as an insurance analyst, I evaluate policies and determine risk for both the carrier and the policyholder. In addition to reviewing applications, I verify accuracy of information, customize coverage, and offer input into the quoting and binding process. Committed to making decisions that are rooted in fact, I transform data into information, and from there I create insights. This allows me to drive the best outcomes for both the customer and the business. I frequently draw upon my earlier experience as paralegal when I review contracts, policies, and other complex documents. The knowledge I gleaned from those experiences is helpful in crafting actionable strategies for driving process forward in the insurance workflow.
