Background

About James Yuile

Presently, I serve as the Chair of the Seminary & Professor of Biblical Studies at Hope International University. This experience has instilled skills related to student success, teaching, as well as administration of education programs. As a professor, I introduce students to the theories, texts, and history of Christianity, Judaism, and the Greco-Roman world, while also personally investing in each student’s success and academic growth. I integrate personalized instruction in courses whenever possible and collaborate with other faculty and staff to develop specialized learning tools to encourage student success. My expertise and research interests include the New Testament, the real lives of early Christians, Greco-Roman history and literature, literary analysis, theory of religion, lived religion, and material culture. Also, my doctoral education includes work in pedagogical approaches for integrating the Digital Humanities and for engaging Common Core educated youth in the college setting. I have also served as a researcher and curator for museums and galleries, using art to explore the human condition, from the ancient Levant to the early American indigenous.Throughout my vocation I have been blessed to explore other important matters such as reconciliation of people-groups, the processing of personal and communal suffering, as well as spiritual growth and practices. My heart has also led me to serving children through foster, adoption, and Christian community, and similarly to seeing that the elderly continue to thrive within real community. Every day I struggle with what it means to lay down one's life, comforts, and aspirations in service to God's family-community-kingdom.Education-Ph.D, Early Christianity in the Greco-Roman World, Claremont Graduate University-M.A. in Religion, emphasis in Early Christians, Claremont Graduate University-M.A. in Religion, emphasis in New Testament-M.A, Ancient Mediterranean Languages and Literature, joint program Claremont School of Theology and Claremont Graduate University-B.A, Biblical Studies, Hope International University.Certifications-Critical Digital Pedagogy and Praxis, Digital Humanities Summer Institute on-campus at University of Victoria, Canada-Digital Humanities Pedagogy: Integration in the Curriculum, Digital Humanities Summer Institute on-campus at University of Victoria, Canada-From Common Core to College: Developing Future-Oriented Teaching and Learning, Claremont Graduate University, supervised by Shamini Dias of Preparing Future Faculty
