About Jamie Hay

In August 2017 James founded Walker Hay Architects having built up over 18 years of industry experience, including published and major construction projects both in the UK and overseas. These included leading roles for the Royal Botanical Gardens Kew Masterplan and the redevelopment of The Curragh Racecourse, Ireland's spiritual home of horse racing. The redevelopment aims to upgrade the facilities and amenities for this prestigious Irish venue with an innovative design that will celebrate the unique landscape of the Curragh Plains whilst retaining the intimate and distinctive character of the existing racecourse grounds. Following work on Grimshaw’s Wimbledon Master Plan for the All England Tennis Club he was project architect for the No.1 Court Redevelopment and retractable roof, working collaboratively with the client and Rolfe Judd planning consultants to lead the successful planning application. In his role as project architect on Edinburgh Arena, James worked closely with Live Nation to develop a number of high level schematic designs for a multipurpose arena and produced a feasibility study in support of the live nation business plan submitted to Edinburgh Council. He has also played a crucial role in a number of competition-winning schemes, including, The Curragh Racecourse and, more recently, the concept design for RDS/Leinster Rugby Arena, Ireland. During his extensive involvement in the London 2012 Olympic Games, James worked closely with stakeholders to facilitate complex operational requirements, working on the design and construction of the Olympic Stadium. He has a proven track record in all phases of the design process including concept design, detail and design development. His strengths include client communication, consultant coordination and a hands-on approach within the field of building design.
