About Jamie Hicks

I am a Senior Network Video Journalist at Global News. I was the first to fill this position which allowed me to define my roles and responsibilities. I work closely with the Health & Business team to create their daily content. I also help the affiliate coordinators mange and distribute content throughout networks and our stations. I have been with Global News since graduating from Ryerson University. This company has helped me grow into the employee that I am today. I take pride in everything I do and I work hard to make sure that I am bringing forth my best possible work. I am excited to see my continued growth and to see where my experiences will lead me while I continue to build my career within the media industry. After leaving high school, I thought that I wanted to be a reporter. My aunt was stuck in Mexico during Hurricane Wilma and my entire family was glued to the news until she returned home safely. I decided then that I wanted to help bring the news to others who needed it. However, once I started my Journalism degree I quickly realized that I had made a mistake. I did not enjoy the work that went into reporting. Luckily, in my second year we were introduced to video editing. I knew right away I had found what I was meant to do. I love taking all the puzzle pieces (video, sound, clips, etc.) and creating something beautiful. I am grateful that I still get to fulfill my original goal, I just do so in an avenue that suits me best. I am at a point in my career where I am hoping to merge my passions with my skills in hopes of creating new challenges and more beautiful creations.
