About Jamie Miller

I help create regenerative designs, using biomimicry, biophilia, and ecological engineering. I have a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph, focusing on systems-level biomimicry and urban resilience. I have been mentored by Janine Benyus and various Indigenous Elders on the deeper principles and application of a nature-based paradigm and am passionate about collaboratively shifting the way we relate to nature to design solutions that respond to the challenges of a changing climate. As the Global Director of Regenerative Design and Biomimicry within SJ, I help lead the firm's Global Sustainability and Regenerative Platform, growing its suite of services by drawing on the genius of nature within the various brands (particularly B+H and Atelier Ten). I am interested in collaborating with Indigenous Communities, recognizing a synergistic relationship between the lens of biomimicry and Traditional Indigenous Knowledge. Together, we are exploring projects that push the paradigm of how to design and relate to place. I am also the Founder of The Biomimicry Commons, a 2019 "World Changing Idea" by Fast Company, which is an incubator space that helps people/companies build a professional practice in biomimicry, and the President of Biomimicry Frontiers, an award-winning sustainability consultancy and strategic planning firm. I was honoured by the David Suzuki Foundation as a "New Centurion", and have spoken worldwide on biomimicry since 2004.
