About Jamie Murphy

At University College Cork, I studied both the French and Irish languages. Here, I focused both on the linguistic side of the languages specialising in Translation and Linguistics as well as literature in both French and Irish from the 12th century up to more current and contemporary works. I also attended l'Univeristé de Rennes II where I had the opportunity to improve my language skills in both Theme and Version Translation, Linguistics, Cinema and Film Studies as well as completing a level 1 Masters in Irish Literature on the completion of a Dissertation based on the works of James Joyce. I have completed a Masters Degree in Dublin City University specialising in French Economic and General Translation as well as Irish Technical and General Translation. I have also completed a thesis (as Gaeilge) on translation theory within the domain of Children's Literature in Translation. Having spent a great deal of time translating and working on terminology databases both in my education and at a professional level, I have extensive experience with both translation and terminology tools and resources including, Trados Studio, Muliterm, OmegaT, IATE, Téarma.ie, Microsoft Office, Léacslann and Gaois. I recently completed a PhD in translation theory based on the translated plays of JM Synge and McDonagh into Irish. I currently work as a Postgraduate Researcher in DCU at 0.5FTE and as an Assistant Professor in Modern Irish in UCD at 0.5FTE. I am extremely motivated, hard working and eager to improve my language skills in all aspects of the French, Irish and English languages.
