About Jamie Pickton

I have been teaching English as a Second Language for the last 10 years. Currently I'm based in Zhengzhou working on the VUE partnership programme with Henan University. I have enjoyed working in different countries and contrasting cultures. This is something that I want to continue to do. Meeting people from different backgrounds and getting to listen to their stories and understand their culture is something that I really enjoy and seek out. Away from work I also like to test my boundaries and get out of my comfort zone. Cycling is where I have been able to do this. I have cycled solo across Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan during the summer of 2019 and across the state of Iowa (USA) in 100F weather. These experiences have shown me that I have the capability to endure uncomfortable conditions and be able to not only survive but enjoy such challenges. I'm diplomatic in approach, patient and considerate of different cultures. I am also comfortable in challenging environments and adapt well to new places. I’m at the stage in my teaching career where I start to look at the longer term. I want to be able to teach programs that make a difference in people's lives whilst advancing my theoretical and pedagogical knowledge.
