About Jamielyn Daugherty

As the UF/IFAS Extension Sumter County Florida-Friendly Landscaping(Tm)(FFL)/Urban Forestry Agent I work to educate professionals in various aspects of the nine FFL principles while educating professionals and resident on Urban Forestry practices. In addition, I am on several committees focused on expanding tree education throughout the state. While I love all plants, I am most passionate about trees, with a major focus on urban trees.Prior to this position, I was the UF/IFAS Lake County Residential Horticulture Agent and Master Gardener Volunteer Coordinator. I was responsible for a wide range of activities. I taught classes to the public, trained new volunteers, oversaw the 3.5-acre Discovery Gardens and more. Class topics include everything from tree care to vegetable gardening. No plant topic was off limits! I am also passionate about education. I am working on a major research project related to education and gardens. Before I started my extension career, I spent several years teaching college biology and environmental topics. Before that I worked in the urban forestry industry as a street tree forester in NYC followed by several years working in utility forestry. What I like most about being an extension agent is that I can do my favorite parts of all my past jobs while still trying new things at work.
