About Jamil Dewan

The world is a complex place, but that doesn't mean we can't understand it. I love being able to analyse and simplify problems so that people are better equipped to improve themselves. To do this, I focus on data analytics and visualisation to deliver solutions that are not only effective but are easy to understand. Statistics isn't a glamourous discipline, but I relish the challenge of making sense of the world through data. I enjoy breaking a large task down into its smaller components and I savour the small victories, all of which build towards the greater goal. Even if a solution exists, it's another matter to communicate it with others. I love exploring the human element that goes into making a solution, even in mathematics where finding a simple and beautiful proof is a deep source of satisfaction. This has led to a desire for self-improvement and finding interesting ways to express myself, whether through creative writing or by presentation through image and video editing. My time as a mentor taught me a lot: to help figure out people's needs and to come prepared with a plan to improve their lives. Guiding young students through their first year at university was an enlightening experience and one that I cherish. There is still much to learn about the world, so I'd like to dedicate myself to a career that helps make it a little less daunting. Languages: SQL, Python, Excel, R, SAS Style Sheets: CSS, HTML
