About Jamiyl Samuels

Jamiyl is a creative, multi-talented and hard-working writer/editor with over 25 years of writing, editing and research experience, previously contributing entertaining articles on artists such as Jim Jones, Lloyd Banks, Idris Elba, MC Lyte and more to popular Hip Hop site allhiphop.com, magazines such as The Ave, Vibe and Rap Fanatic, as well as serving as a staff writer for popular NY Hip Hop radio station HOT 97. Jamiyl has been trained in media arts with a concentration in screenwriting, a background he has used to complete four dramatic screenplays, two short screenplays, self publish a book challenging the stereotypes of African American fatherhood, and co-author multiple children’s books that spread awareness about Autism and promote acceptance and understanding of children with special needs. Jamiyl is equally passionate about and has a special aptitude in sports as showcased at his time as a sports blogger with Interactive One company TheUrbanDaily.com. Possessing a proven ability to manage staff, create copy for any situation, and meet tight deadlines, Jamiyl learns quickly, works well under pressure, and adapts to any situation to put his best effort forward at all times. Jamiyl currently works as a NYC Correction Officer in the high risk environment of Rikers Island's young adult jail facility RNDC. In this setting Jamiyl supervises at-risk youth to not only ensure compliance with rules and regulations, but to offer advice and counsel on issues of teen fatherhood, relationships with loved ones, the danger of continued gang activity, and the anxiety and stress of being locked up. This is important work as these youth seek positive direction and reasoning that may help in their re-entry into society. Jamiyl's time at DOC has inspired some of the content he implements into his written work as well. Jamiyl's ultimate goal is to continue to grow as a media professional whether it be through his own personal published work or by contributing content to established music, news, film, publishing, and/or sports media outlets as a writer/blogger, screenwriter, researcher and producer.
