About Jan de Wit

I am Head of the Financial Markets Department at National Bank of Belgium and hence oversee the activities of 120 highly competent FTE and the bulk of the Bank’s 375+ billion euro balance sheet. I cover the areas of monetary policy implementation, collateral management, reserves and portfolio management, settlement of operations, financial risk management, payment systems and the domestic securities settlement system. I am a Member of the Market Operations Committee at the ECB in Frankfurt and a Member of the Markets Committee at the BIS in Basel. Before, I served for nine years as the Bank’s Head of front office, covering both dealing rooms for monetary policy implementation (including the asset purchase programmes) and reserve & portfolio management. I initially built market expertise whilst holding for ten years a position as portfolio manager, focusing on credit-risky fixed-income investments and asset allocation, after having served for several years as a macroprudential analyst in the Bank's Financial Stability Department. Before joining NBB, I was employed by KBC Bank, where I specialized in foreign exchange derivatives. I hold a Master degree in International Securities, Investment and Banking from ICMA Centre, University of Reading (UK), a Master degree in Financial Management and Investments from HUB, Brussels, and a Master degree in Commercial Engineering from EHSAL, Brussels. As a guest teacher, I animated several courses at my alma mater for nearly a decade. I am a CFA Charterholder and Past President of the Belgian CFA Society.
