About Jan Fiala

As a postdoctoral researcher at Utrecht University, I specialize in applying MS-based proteomics—including top-down, intact protein analysis, bottom-up, and native MS—to investigate biomolecular interactions. My research also includes advancing and developing mass spectrometry hardware through the integration of 3D printing, microcontrollers, and laser technology.I hold a PhD in Biochemistry from Charles University in Prague, where my research focused on the structural and functional characterization of protein-protein and protein-DNA complexes using radical footprinting, chemical cross-linking, and hydrogen/deuterium exchange. During my PhD, I completed a six-month research internship at the University at Albany, SUNY, where I concentrated on cross-linking protein-DNA/RNA complexes.Additionally, I have a master's and bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry from Masaryk University Brno, where I optimized a HILIC-based analytical separation method for short oligonucleotides.
