About Jan Fransen

Onderwijsbeleid staat centraal in mijn loopbaan. Rode draad vormen de thema's van gelijke onderwijskansen, sociale rechtvaardigheid en diversiteit in onderwijs. Ik werkte rond deze thema's in internationale context (VVOB) en als coördinator gelijke onderwijskansen bij het GO! Onderwijs van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap. Momenteel ben ik teamcoördinator Beleidsthema's bij het GO! Onderwijs van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap. Binnen dit team nemen we de beleidsthema's op van gelijke onderwijskansen, omgaan met diversiteit (met inbegrip van interlevensbeschouwelijke dialoog), het afstemmen van onderwijs en arbeidsmarkt, een duurzaam en inclusief HR-beleid, financiering en mogelijke nieuwe horizontale beleidsthema's die op de beleidsagenda komen te staan. As an education Advisor for VVOB I offered technical advice, guidance and support to ministries of education, teacher training colleges and training providers for school leaders and teachers. This is done in order to improve teaching and school leadership practices, with a special attention for equity issues. Focus countries are Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Suriname and Rwanda. I also worked some years as Coordinator of Educaid.be, the Belgian platform for Education in Development Cooperation. I brought together the stakeholders in the field of education within Development Cooperation, in order to stimulate collaboration between these stakeholders and to advocate for education as an important development tool for developing countries. I worked for 5 years as policy advisor at the Ministry of Education and Training of the Flemish Community and was within the strategic policy unit responsible for the elaboration of policies in the field of lifelong learning and technical and vocational education and training. Researcher at the Free University of Brussels. I realized a project on the financing of the education in the Brussels municipalities, and for a project on image building of the Brussels Capital Region.
