About Jan Harste

I have always had a passion for Product Management and Marketing, shaping the role between business strategy and product development and working closely with both ends. My passion lies in developing product and portfolio strategies in alignment with business objectives and laying the foundation for successful products that customers and channels love. Throughout my career I received invaluable mentorship and advice that helped me make the right decisions for my products and for customers. Now I want to give this back by providing mentorship for beginners and advanced product managers looking for best practices and useful advice on how to build great products and a career in product management. During my 17+ years in Product Management, I have specialised in the area of software for the office printing sector, ranging from output management and accounting solutions to security and authentication solutions. But my passion has led me to absorb every piece of information regarding best practices in product management and marketing, regardless of the industry. As a digital native, I especially gravitate to connected and integrative technology products that help in making our work and private life more enjoyable. I am extremely thankful that my choice of being a product manager has opened me the opportunity to work in the Product Planning Department in my company's HQ in Tokyo/Japan for 3 years from 2009 to end of 2011. During this time I worked closely with different R&D teams and the different regional headquarters in Europe, the US, Australia, China and Singapore. It was an experience that was truly inspiring and rewarding. I thrive on working in a global and multicultural environment and enjoy every experience to the most. In my leisure time, I enjoy discovering music ranging from rock and electronic to folk. I love playing tennis and at home watching good-quality TV-series from the US and UK.
