About Jan Helmig

I am a motivated and enthusiastic computational modeling expert currently finishing my PhD at RWTH Aachen University where I also previously obtained a Bachelor and Master (with honors) degree in Computational Engineering. My research is about simulating flow in complex rotating domains. This includes modeling of transport and flow processes and the development of sophisticated meshing and mesh update methods as well as their efficient, HPC-suitable implementation. Furthermore, I am interested in model order reduction, particularly in non-intrusive methods using artificial neural networks. I have strong organizational and people skills which I showed, e.g, as the main responsible organizer for a bachelor course in the mechanical engineering program with around students. Furthermore, I am a very open person integrating seamlessly with interdisciplinary and diverse groups managing to directly create impact which I showed during two internships and my bachelor thesis abroad in the US and Norway. I am eager to share my experience in modeling, software development, numerical methods, as well as data-driven methods while keeping my eyes open to learning something new. An important point for me is to be part of a motivated team, in which one helps and learns from each other through a regular exchange, to achieve maximum added value.
