About Jan Mikula

Learning enthusiast and computer science researcher with a focus on optimization, AI, and robotics. My dissertation addresses visibility-aware route optimization problems, situated at the intersection of operations research, computational geometry, and mobile robotics. I have published in both operations research and robotics journals and have presented at leading robotics conferences, including ICRA and IROS. Beyond my dissertation, I’ve contributed to several additional research and applied projects, applying skills from operations research, machine learning, and robot programming. Recently, my research has expanded into neural combinatorial optimization (NCO), a rapidly growing field that applies end-to-end machine learning models to solve NP-hard combinatorial optimization problems. I completed a 6-month research internship at Naver Labs Europe, followed by a 6-month collaboration during which we developed novel diffusion-based generative models for NCO. I have hands-on experience with supervised and reinforcement learning, diffusion models, transformers, and more.
