About Jan Toivanen

I am a multilingual Singaporean living in Finland with work experience in event management for diplomatic missions. Together with my former team mates, we achieved solid turnouts and had significant outreach for our cultural projects and events which have attracted crowds of more than I thrive in international work environments and would like to continue pursuing my passion in connecting people through managing events here in Finland. Through my past few years of growth at work and on my job hunt journey, I have learned that: 1) I enjoy taking on the new challenges that come with each project or assignment. 2) I love to learn about new cultures and get to know new people. 3) I am flexible and adaptable and can get things done once I set my mind on it. 4) I am not afraid to work hard. In fact, I am pretty good at multitasking and prioritising tasks my to-do-list. 5) I passionate about languages and started off translating as a past time but have since been turned this hobby into a small-time, freelance career. My translation gigs usually involve academic texts, web pages and performance programmes. My main language pairs are: Finnish-German, Finnish-English, German-English and English-Mandarin-English. I also proofread academic papers.
