About Jan Zeleny

I'm a passionate engineering manager who enjoys the technical work as much as the work with people and leadership of the team. I believe that well working team can do greater things than any individual and I like building strong teams that have drive and passion for what they do. Being a manager in my day job, I still am an engineer in my heart. And because my day job fully employs my leadership skills and minimizes my exposure to the technical work, I enjoy returning back to the engineering work at least in the evening. I carefully pick projects I work on because I believe people need to truly care about everything they do if they want to do it well. When I care, I think holistically about the project I work on. It's not just the code. It's the architecture. It's the user experience. It's the value proposition. It's the people who I collaborate with. When I care, it's easy for them to care as well. As a hobby on the side I am interested in data mining and machine learning in general but the most enjoyable part for me are algorithms and data structures for text preprocessing and subsequent knowledge discovery. If there is a dream job, it's leading a research team in private sector.
