About Jana Bowden

I am an experienced marketer and consumer behaviour expert at the Macquarie University Business School with a significant background in market research consultancy and brand management. With two decades of experience as an educator, I teach consumer behaviour, services marketing and marketing fundamentals to both undergraduate and postgraduate learners. As a market researcher, my work focuses on examining how consumers engage, disengage and negatively engage with brands. Stanford University has placed me on the world Top 2% Scientists Citations ranking list in 2023/2022/2021 and I am ranked within the top 2% of researchers globally in the marketing discipline and also across all research disciplines. I am also an Associate Editor for the European Journal of Marketing. Passionate about impact, I strongly believe in translating marketing research into practice and communicating this with the public. I regularly engage with media to discuss marketing, branding and consumer behaviour. I have provided media comment and opinion editorial pieces on consumer psychology and retail for The Australian, Australian Financial Review, Sydney Morning Herald, The Daily Telegraph, The New Daily, A Current Affair, The Today Show, Sky News, 7 News, Sunrise, and the ABC. I also provides expert case consumer insights commentary for Commonwealth Bank. This coverage reached a cumulative public audience of 355+ million globally in 2023. I have been a regular columnist for trade magazine Inside Retail providing consumer behaviour insights and writing on enhancing the CX, brand engagement and understanding the pre-covid and post-covid consumer. I an accredited Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) and recipient of a range of Faculty, Vice-Chancellor (two) and Australian Government level (Australian Learning and Teaching Council) teaching excellence awards as a marketing educator.
