About Jana Stuart
Renown for her mastery of sound and sensitive playing, pianist Jana Stuart has studied and performed extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and North America. She is an accomplished soloist, chamber musician and pedagogue. Her studies began with Josiane Lefebvre at the Preville Fine Arts Centre, where she won the concerto competition in 1988. She continued her studies with Luba Zuk, Dorothy Morton and Marina Mdivani at McGill University, obtaining her Bachelor of Music. In she was awarded a grant from the Conseil des arts et lettres du Quebec to study at the Schola Cantorum in Paris with Eugen Indjic and Marina Primachenko. In 2002 she returned to Montreal to study with Gregory Chaverdian at Concordia University, completing a graduate Diploma in Advanced Music Studies in Performance. Jana Stuart has also studied at the Chautauqua Summer Music Schools in New York, the International Holland Music Sessions, Orford Arts Center, the International Schlern Music Festival, the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Weimar, the Freies Muzeum Centrum in Stuttgart Germany, and the Tel Hai International masterclasses in Israel. Her master teachers have been Lazar Berman, Gyorgy Sandor, Lee Kum Sing, Marie-Francoise Buquet, Jan Marisse Huizing, Piotr Paleczny, Abbey Simon, Peter Feuchtwanger, Gunter Reinhold, Rebecca Penneys, Angela Cheng, Evgeny Mogilevsky, Viktor Krainev, Richard Raymond, Gabriel Chodos, Alon Goldstein, Jose Ribera, and André Laplante. In 2004 she debued Nancy Telfer’s piece “Release My Heart From This Dark Chamber”, a piece depicting domestic abuse. In she was awarded third prize in Le Concours de France. In 2009 Jana Stuart participated at the Ibla Grand Prize International Music Competition in Sicily Italy, and was awarded the prize “Distinguished Pianist”. Stuart's students have won prizes at the Joy of Music Festival, the Quebec Music Educator’s Association, as well as the Montreal Classical Competition.
