About Janae Gallant

I have long had an interest in the fields of both healthcare and child development which I began to reconcile as I started my nursing degree in September of 2019. My interests have led me to work in the field of pharmaceuticals as well as private childcare. Academically, I pursued a degree in neuroscience where my thesis focused on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of sexual abuse as compared to other forms of trauma. Following this degree I continued my studies in the field of psychology doing clinical research at The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario's Centre for Healthy Active Living where I explored poverty and food insecurity as a risk factor for disordered eating in a population of adolescents living with obesity. I enjoyed research, but found my passion in the rare patient-facing moments of that position. I was inspired by the nurses I worked alongside and the flexibility their careers had to offer. In 2023 I graduated from the University of Ottawa with a BSc in Nursing and returned to CHEO as an RN in inpatient medicine and step-down ICU.
