Background
About Jane Douglas
I am a registered nurse and work as Associate Director for Policy, Research and Standards at the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) based in Canberra. Until March 2025 worked as the Strategic Lead, Workforce and Professional Officer at the ANMF Federal Office. With extensive experience in clinical, educational, and regulatory roles, I am dedicated to advancing nursing practice and education. I completed my undergraduate nursing degree and went on to earn a PhD from the University of Wollongong, titled “Early career registered nurses: how and why do they stay”. My career includes a significant tenure as a Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC2) in Palliatve Care, during which I managed the implementation of the Last Days of Life Toolkit in acute and sub-acute care settings across Southern NSWLHD from 2019 to 2021. Clinical Experience: I have worked as an RN and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Intensive Care Units in Nepean, Sydney, and Newcastle, gaining experience in general, pediatric, and cardiothoracic intensive care. After years in ICU, I transitioned to pain management. My diverse clinical background also includes experience in palliative care, recovery units, generalist community, transitional care, and post-acute community settings. Learning and Teaching: I am passionate about nurse education, having worked as a Lecturer and Course Director at universities, as well as a Clinical Nurse Educator and Clinical Facilitator in hospital settings. My focus has been on developing, delivering, and evaluating learning materials for both undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students, emphasising transformative learning. Qualifications: I hold a Bachelor of Arts (English Literature), a Bachelor of Nursing, and several graduate and postgraduate qualifications, including a Grad Cert in ICU Nursing, Grad Cert in Palliative Care, Grad Cert in Adult Education and Training, Grad Dip in Adult Education, and a Master of Advanced Nursing Practice, culminating in my PhD. With a commitment to promoting excellence in nursing, I strive to contribute to the ongoing development of the nursing profession, contributing to the delivery of safe, effective and accessible patient care.
