About Jane Duncan

As a leader of finance with a wealth of experience building best practice finance functions, I have developed a broad business skillset, underpinned by collaborative leadership strengths with sound technical accounting expertise. My strengths lie in developing robust, compliant and insightful financial processes and systems, with the ability to see the commercial big picture then dive into the detail to build highly efficient finance functions from the ground up. Core abilities include providing leadership teams with clear summaries of financial positions, influencing effective decision-making with data that delivers tangible results, often through process, system and operational efficiency gains. As a team-focused pragmatist, my primary goal is always to optimise outcomes, whether that’s through problem resolution, process improvement or playing a key role in productive change projects. My technical skills were developed during early audit roles in chartered accountancy firms. Since then, I’ve honed the ability to enhance financial strategy, efficiency and quality across all aspects of reporting, control and analysis. Career highlights include modernising the finance function at Associated Newspapers, where I automated an outdated environment as Group FC controlling +£1BN revenues. Since then I’ve had a career break, before returning to develop meticulous financial management of the post-Olympics development charity, Spirit of 2012. Over the years I’ve learnt the importance of focused, determined attention to detail, bringing clarity and accountability, vital in securing buy-in from key stakeholders and building great teams of direct reports.
