Background
About Jane Fry
In addition to substantial experience and knowledge in Data Services within an academic library, I also bring very strong skills in research data management, data literacy, and teaching. On an international level, I am a co-instructor for a course on providing data services at ICPSR (Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research, As well, I have frequently been invited to lead workshops on data-related topics in local, national and international arenas. Collaboration is an important component of my current job due to its interdisciplinary nature and I am proficient in interacting with my colleagues, and staff of other organizations with courtesy, discretion and tact. Having a strong public service orientation leads me to be actively involved in a number of Library committees, as well as committees in the Carleton University community, and committees on the provincial, national and international levels. My involvement in these committees ranges from Chair to member. As an developer, I continue to be a leader in the metadata effort for OCUL. The data world has changed substantially over the past 15 years and I have enthusiastically embraced the changes and explored other avenues to remain on the forefront of these changes. I am proficient with software used in both quantitative and qualitative analysis, and data visualization. In addition, I enjoy learning and applying new technologies in my work, such as Dataverse. My skills include being able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. During my tenure as Data Specialist, I have successfully hired, trained and managed a staff of up to eight people. This includes designing and updating training manuals, as well as regularly updating training manuals I co-authored, which are used by all students hired by Scholars Portal for marking-up data in.
