About Jane Kirkham

Jane Kirkham is an Educational and Developmental Psychologist currently employed by the Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA) to provide a range of psychological services at independent schools in Western Australia. As part of this role she is leading the AISWA Wellbeing and Mental Health in Schools Pilot Project. Jane also has an extensive teaching background with experience in mainstream, gifted, and inclusive education at primary and secondary levels in Australia, United Kingdom, and in South Africa. In 2017 her service to education was acknowledged with an Outstanding Professional Service Award presented by the Professional Teaching Council of Western Australia (PTCWA). Jane is also a PhD candidate in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Western Australia. She is investigating motivational factors that underlie gendered decision-making about mathematics courses in senior secondary school students. Jane received the Western Australian Institute for Educational Research (WAIER)- Forgarty Foundation Postgraduate Student Research Prize in 2021. She has presented her work at international conferences and in 2020 she was awarded the University of Western Australia WAIER Prize in Education. Her research interests lie in the motivation, engagement, and the wellbeing of school students and teachers.
