About Jane Mead

I am a Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed School Nurse (LSN) with almost 30 years of experience supporting the health and safety of children and families in both school and hospital settings. For the past 26 years, I have served as a School Nurse and Clinic Nurse in Upper Arlington Schools, where I partner closely with students, families, and staff to create safe and supportive learning environments. My expertise lies in maximizing student in-class time by reducing health-related barriers and developing Individual Health Plans, 504s, and emergency action plans. I bring advanced training in emergency preparedness and a proven ability to define and address the evolving health needs of school populations. As an educator and advocate, I designed the School Nurse’s Staff Training course on Canvas, a comprehensive resource that equips teachers and staff with the skills needed to respond confidently to student health concerns and emergencies. Leadership highlights include: Safety & Crisis Planning: Served 7 years as co-chair of the District Safety Committee, co-created the district’s Crisis Plan Flip Chart (now in its 4th printing), and contributed to districtwide crisis response planning (TECIP team). Policy & Program Development: Revised and digitized the Health Services Policy & Procedure Manual for districtwide use; helped establish district guidelines for food allergy management. Compliance & Reporting: Submitted annual PERRP (OSHA) safety compliance reports for all school buildings and departments. Clinical Experience: Prior nursing background in the Women and Infants Department at The Ohio State University Medical Center. I am passionate about empowering school communities to prioritize health and safety, and I thrive on building collaborative partnerships that allow every student to succeed.
