About Janek Codlin

I am an MSc Environmental Geology and Land Contamination student at the University of Portsmouth (expected September 2025), with a BSc in Environmental Geoscience. As a member of the Geological Society of London, the Emergency Planning Society, and the Society of Brownfield Risk Assessment, I have an interest in developing effective emergency planning strategies and addressing environmental contamination challenges to promote community resilience and sustainable land management. As an Internationally Qualified Disaster Responder with RE:ACT Disaster Response, I have advanced from Local to International response capabilities, demonstrating effective crisis management. Notable experiences include responding to the Muswell Hill Gas Outage and the Southampton Water Outage, where I conducted welfare checks and distributed resources under pressure. I am currently enhancing regional resilience capacity through MAIC training, aligned with the National Contingency Plan. In my role as Events and Conference Coordinator with the UK and Ireland Spill Association, I organized the inaugural “Marine Spill and Plastic Pollution Conference,” engaging over 70 stakeholders to drive actionable response strategies. My academic projects include designing an integrated model for hypothetical brownfield redevelopment focused on pollutant risk analysis and stakeholder engagement and conducting a desk study in landslide-prone areas per Eurocode 7 standards. Additionally, I developed a Decision Support Tool for spill response and delivered a compliance presentation, underscoring my expertise in data-driven decision-making. Trained in JESIP principles and M/ETHANE protocols, I enhance multi-agency coordination. My practical skills were further developed through the Maritime and Coastguard Agency "Beach Supervisor" Course, focusing on coastal response strategies and site security. With expertise in emergency planning, resilience, and multi-agency collaboration, I aim to contribute innovative solutions to environmental challenges and improve emergency response strategies.
