About Janet Mitchell

I received my degree in Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago in 2011. My externship training encompassed a broad range of clinical settings from a prestigious private practice on the north side of Chicago, to a Veteran’s hospital on the west side of Chicago, all the way to a research hospital in Wenzhou, China. During optometry school, I had the opportunity to participate in a humanitarian trip that brought eye care and glasses to Nicaragua through Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH). After completing optometry school I continued to volunteer my time through various programs around the country. I have worked in a plethora of practices—both private and corporate—to familiarize myself with a broad range of practice settings. I now have an appreciation for individual private practices, rapidly-developing multi-location private practices, upscale boutiques, Ophthalmology practices, hospital settings, and both franchise and non-franchise corporate chains. My involvement at all of these locations has helped strengthen my scope of practice and knowledge as an eye care provider. I generally support a more natural approach to eye care. I not only focus on correcting a patient’s vision, but on the fitness of the patient’s entire ocular system in their daily activities. I specialize in ocular surface diseases (i.e. Dry Eye Disease, ocular allergies), Computer Vision Syndrome and asthenopia, pediatrics and binocular vision, and fitting specialty contact lenses.
