About Janice Dean

I am currently a research assistant at the Yale Clinical Affective Neuroscience and Development (CAND) Lab at Yale University investigating the development of the brain throughout adolescence as well as factors impacting children’s development of emotional learning, emotional regulation, and early risks of developing psychiatric illnesses. The projects I primarily assist with are researching effective treatments for children with anxiety. In this position, I aid with participant recruitment and screening as well as data entry utilizing various applications for analysis such as Redcap. Prior to this position, I worked in the Yale Computational Social Cognition Lab exploring the development of children by inferring what someone knows from observing that person’s interactions with the world. In this position I conduct research studies, collecting data on participants between the ages of 4 and 6. Similar to my current position, I assisted with recruitment and data entry utilizing programs such as Salesforce. Along with being active in psychology research at Yale, I am also involved in the Yale Education Studies program in which I discuss various topics within education such as current education policy, social influences within the classroom, and revolutionary pedagogical practices with my peers. Within this program, I often utilize my experiences as a rural, low-income student to provide a distinct perspective. I have also held positions as an Academic Strategies Intern, mentoring First-Generation Low-Income (FGLI) students on resources and opportunities at Yale as well as assisting with the transition process to Yale. Prior to these positions, I have worked as an intern at my local head start, KCEOC Community Action Partnership, assisting with applications and crafting student activities. I also served as a business assistant at Yale Printing and Publishing where I assisted with report reconciliation, creating invoices, and managing volunteer programs. Finally, I also worked as an undergraduate technology assistant at Yale University, assisting with the transition of class instruction to an online platform.
