About Janie Brown

I an Associate Professor in Curtin School of Nursing and a Snr Research Fellow, at St John of God Midland & Lead, International Consortium for Occupational Resilience. I have held leadership & service roles throughout my academic & clinical careers, as well as in voluntary positions, including Course Coordinator of the Master of Nursing Practice (2015 to 2022), Core Member St John of God Health Care HREC (current), Deputy Chair of the Board, Ursula Frayne Catholic College (2017 to 2019), Director of Teaching & Learning Curtin School of Nursing (2012 to 2015 & April to August 2019 & March/April 2020, during COVID19 transition to online / off-campus delivery), Nursing & Midwifery Research Coordinator at St John of God Subiaco (2012 to 2016), Director of Practice Based Learning (2009 to 2011), & Director of Clinical Placements, both at Southern Cross University (2006 to 2009). I am a Registered Nurse & have been a educator across higher education, vocational education, adult & community education & clinical education. I have gained experience in undergraduate & post graduate coursework & higher degree by research supervision (level 1 supervisor). I have national & international experience teaching both clinical & mixed methods research units to nursing, midwifery & allied health students & professionals. I have taught both internally & via the fully online mode, at a number of sites including Perth, Open Universities Australia & Singapore. I am skilled in delivering lectures, seminars & tutorials, clinical content in skills labs & simulation, & use technology to deliver synchronous & asynchronous content via BlackBoard & other platforms. With respect to my clinical research, I respond to demand driven research problems through my Senior Research Fellow position at St John of God Midland Public Private Hospital, my ongoing collaboration with St John of God Subiaco Hospital & through ICOR, securing industry grants to explore real world problems. My PhD was the scholarship of learning & teaching & continue to pursue research into higher education to inform my practice as a Teaching & Research academic. I continually strive to contribute in meaningful ways to the national & international nursing community of practice. I do this through reflexive & effective nursing leadership & academic excellence in teaching & research. The nexus between my leadership, teaching & research roles engages me with students, clinicians, higher education specialists & researchers to work collaboratively & collectively for better health outcomes for all Australians.
