About Janie Heath
I am proud to serve as the Dean of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing and support the entire Big Blue Nursing Nation! With more than 20 years in nursing leadership, I am most passionate about promoting healthy working and learning environments; advancing nursing science and scholarly practice; integrating evidence-based tobacco cessation interventions; and fostering nursing professionalism, leadership, and advocacy for health and wellness. I also strongly believe in the importance of health equity and promoting diversity and racial justice in higher education, healthcare, and the community as a whole. Before coming to UK, I was an endowed professor of nursing and the chief academic officer at the University of Virginia and the Medical College of Georgia. I’ve also provided academic leadership for Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Critical-Care Clinical Nurse Specialist Programs at Georgetown University in Washington and at the University of South Carolina. During my career, I've been awarded more than $12 million for academic and/or research initiatives that generated more than 150 publications and abstracts, with my primary research program of study involved workforce development for resilient and ethical practices and effective interventions with tobacco-dependent populations in acute and primary care settings.
