About Janki Tailor

One of my mentors once told me that my career should bring light to my life—in the form of a gleam that includes my goals, but also in the form of a brilliant luminescence that includes my curiosity and ambition. Hi I’m Janki and that gleam, that brilliance in my life is healing people! I think healing people can come in many forms, whether you are providing someone their morning cup of coffee or meeting them in the medical consultation room. Right now, that healing for me looks like working in the public health field and learning more about the structural barriers that impact clients’ access to HIV prevention, testing, and treatment during this decades long HIV pandemic. I started out as a typical student conducting research in various fields—marine biology, chemical engineering, neuroscience, pediatric immunology. All of these experiences have made me a meticulous analyst skilled in critical thinking, statistics, and coding. Concurrently, my various volunteer and mentorship positions, involving teaching teenagers leadership and resilience through emotional trauma, and comforting patients and their families, have taught me empathy and how to support others. While it may seem that both skill sets are vastly different from one another, I have learned to have them compliment each other. It basically looks like encouraging diversity, speaking up for equal rights, and stepping back and listening when my voice is less important than that of others.
