About Janna Altmann
HeartGift is dedicated to providing life-saving heart surgery to children from developing countries where specialized medical care is either scarce or nonexistent. Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is the most common birth defect affecting in every 100 children. In the United States, children are diagnosed, typically within the first few months of life, and given the life-saving care they need regardless of their ability to pay. Sadly, however, 93% of children in the world born with CHD have no access to specialized care. Through our partnership with Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, HeartGift's all-volunteer medical team is able to provide life-saving surgery at no cost to the families. HeartGift coordinates travel to and from the US and recruit a team of volunteers to provide a host home, translation, meals, and drivers.
