About Jared C. Morris

Jared is currently engaged by the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia as the Chief Executive Officer of its national energy company. The company is established in seven legal jurisdictions, employs approximately 130 full time equivalent staff. The company operates five international airport refueling operations, four international marine bunkering ports, seven terminal facilities, and has an annual turnover exceeding $US60MM. Prior to his current engagement, Jared worked for the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat as the Import Management Advisor. In this capacity, he provided public policy and technical assistance to the 14 Island Member Governments of the Forum in the areas of commodity price management, fuel pricing and regulation, standards, and quality. In three countries, Fiji, Tonga, and the Solomon Islands, he was responsible to the Governments for the annual negotiation of petroleum pricing policy frameworks with ExxonMobil, Shell Oil and BP. In more recent times his focus has been on corporate governance having achieved the AIF, Governance Fellow credentials. His career has spanned technical level in the industrial and transport sector, through commercial and business management, working as a Planning Engineer with the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji from 94 – 98, and as an Engineer and then Business Development Manager with Shell Oil Company from 98 – 04. Jared’s overall experience, leading high level Government negotiations, development of corporate governance frameworks, and in management positions within statutory authorities, multinationals, and regional political and policy bodies has provided him well rounded experience, a balanced perspective, and a pragmatic approach to the issues and challenges that currently face small island countries. This coupled with a hands on approach to the management of risk and change provide a powerful base for successful implemetation of the most challenging initiatives.
