About Jared Gobin

From attacking seemingly impenetrable math puzzles to finding the simplest and most intuitive way to explain an idea, I love solving challenging problems. Nothing excites me more than putting on my Sherlock Holmes cap, grabbing my magnifying glass, and following the clues to eventually solve a big mystery. My passion for problem solving began when I failed the first ever math exam I took in university. I dropped the class and retook it in the summer. Despite being extremely embarrassed of my failure, I was far more determined not to let a class beat me. So I spent hours and hours at my desk painfully studying the class notes, textbook, and anything else I could find online that might help me. Eventually, everything started to click. But it was more than that. I wasn't just starting to get it, I actually started to really enjoy it! I fell in love with those problems that once tortured me, and seeing completely different questions on tests didn't scare me, it excited me. Some of my favourite memories from university are getting assignments with seemingly impossible questions and cracking their mysteries just before the deadline. I finished my undergraduate degree with a 4.21/4.5 GPA, but I earned a 4.45/4.5 in the second half. During my degree, I also won the Robert Ross McLaughlin award for the highest academic average out of all third-year math students, the Dr Jiri Sichler Memorial Scholarship in Algebra for achievement in algebra, the Gunter Krause Award for achievement in a mathematics course, to name a few. I also gained the reputation of being a great teacher, and my classmates nicknamed me "Teaching Assistant Jared"(TA Jared for short) accordingly. After my undergraduate degree, I completed a mathematics master's degree, earning a perfect 4.5/4.5 GPA and a graduate fellowship for research potential and academic excellence.
