About Jared Oliver

I am a software engineer, who likes to write high-performance, data-oriented programs. While much of my professional experience is in web development, I am certainly not a web developer exclusively. I’m a computer nerd at my core and have a strong low-level understanding of how computers work and how to program them natively. I’m no stranger to viewing x86-64 disassembly to see exactly how my program is executing on the CPU. I am a very fast, self-motivated learner, and I also love explaining and teaching difficult concepts to others. In addition, I love to program and design my own video games from scratch. I love the challenge of writing performant code across all the domains (gameplay, graphics, sound, animation, etc.) that game engines require. I am currently working on a 2D, grid-based, puzzle game for the PC platform. The game/engine is written from scratch in the C programming language. Currently, the game features software rendered graphics (although soon to be moved to OpenGL) and an in-game level editor. I've previously developed a competitive, skill-based bubble popping game for the web called Populus (http://populus.gg/). Populus, has an event-driven custom engine and features 1-on-1 competitive play over WebSockets. The client was built with plain old vanilla JavaScript and used HTML Canvas with the 2D rendering context API for simple graphics. The game server was written in Node.js.
