About Jari Ahonen

I was born 1963 in Helsinki. We lived in Zambia 69-71. My father worked for UN. I started my school "career" in Lusaka Boy school. My best friends in Zambia were Dominic and George. With them I learned the local language Bemba. Unfortunately I can't speak it anymore. I flew home as an unattended minor with a BOAC VC-10. Great aircraft. Lusaka - Kairo - London - Helsinki. London- Helsinki was a Trident. I remember a table with seats facing forward and aft. We played cards with a flight attendant. Maybe that was the trigger for my airline career? I started at Finnair after military service in 1984. I worked at loading first. I went to Commercial College 86-88. 1988 I went to check in, then to arrival services and I worked first at weight & balance and soon as a "Red Cap". Red Cap was a ramp agent, turn around coordinator and finally responsible of the load sheet. Starting from may I worked as an OCC (Operations Control Centre) Crew Supervisor and from 2005 also as an application specialist for our crew tracking. Since 2020 my new position is Pre-Ops Crew Specialist. After the crew rosters are published we solve all the problems including crew training. The target is to have minimal unsolved problems on the day off operation. I had the honour of being involved in our CMS (Crew Management System) project from the beginning with Carmen Systems. Currently Jeppesen. Finnair was the launching tracking customer. It has been in production since 2007. I am a hands on person very much. It's mostly about attitude. The rest can be trained. I have noticed this fact many times. Asenne ratkaisee!
