About Jarod Bartels

When I was 12 I helped my father fix a kitchen sink. As he asked for tools I would retrieve them and hand them over. Abruptly he said,"Jarod, your job isn't to hand me the tool I need when I ask for it. Your job is to think about what tool I'm going to need next and have it ready." I think this life event is the underlying theme of my professional career. I reflect often on the need to be humble, learn from others, plan my work, anticipate problems, problem solve, and be prepared. I am constantly seeking to understand how my role integrates with others so that I can consistently add value by providing the best tool for the job. As a project accountant, that meant understanding project financials and relaying pertinent information in a timely manner to decision makers. It also meant taking administrative tasks away from project managers so they could focus on their area of expertise. In my role as the financial systems manager I strive to understand the needs of today as an ongoing concern. I want to develop training and tools that elevate everyone’s performance. I want to build the pedestal that enables others to reach higher. I endeavor to take tasks one step further, to get ahead of the unasked question, and to provide the tool before it is requested. The desire and drive to create value by serving and enabling others to reach their potential is a fundamental component of my character.
