About Jarrell Daniels

Jarrell E. Daniels is the Founder & Program Director of the Justice Ambassadors Youth Council (JAYC) at Columbia University’s Center for Justice. The Justice Ambassadors program is a 12-week civic education and life skills building seminar that brings together government executives and 18-25 year-olds – many of whom are legal system impacted or gang involved – and come from New York City’s most under-served neighborhoods. The central focus of JAYC is a model of policy-by-proximity: a collaborative methodology of incorporating the voices and lived experiences of people on the margins of society, into the development of policy proposals with government leaders, centered around system reform and community change. Jarrell is an aspiring civil rights and constitutional lawyer. His primary focus is driving policy and legislative reform while bridging the divide between government and marginalized communities. As a lawyer, Jarrell will use strategic appellate court advocacy and impact litigation to transform legal statutes. His ultimate goal is to help establish national models, for states and cities, to build sustainable infrastructure for community re-development in under-resourced areas.
