Who would have thought I’d dread writing a LinkedIn bio this much? They’re supposed to be straightforward, right? I studied here, worked there, got promoted and now I work as (fill-in exciting title) at (fill-in impressive company name). Done. Easy. The problem is my life hasn't been anything like that. No, I’ve been more like a pinball that was punted around the world by my circumstances and passions. I actually only started getting serious about my education after finally getting clean and sober following years of overly embracing the ‘young and dumb’ cliché. So there I was, 21 and ready to change the world. Having always been passionate about ancient religions and mythology but, unfortunately, already having dropped out of university for it, I gave it another go. This time specializing in Christianity, which at the time I was utterly obsessed with. But these studies wouldn’t pay for themselves and the few promos and sales jobs I had weren’t quite making the cut. So why not go back to Thailand and teach English? Earn some cash while living and studying abroad. It was true, the time I spent there when I was 19 was short-lived and quite hazy, but I managed a course in TESOL. That was it- back to Thailand! And three weeks later, I was living and teaching in a remote village where I’d spend the next year. Fortunately, I’d always loved foreign languages and Thai would only be the first I’d become conversational in. Next would be Koine, Mandarin and Polish, but those came later. After a year, it was time for something new and considering my Facebook page had been gaining traction for a few inspirational quotes, I figured, why not write a book? ‘Please Help Me 180’- a motivational guide to change. In fact, considering I spent most of my waking hours ministering to homeless people, drug addicts and fighting against human-trafficking, I wrote another book, ‘Life Under the Sun’. Things were going well. I had established quite a following on Social Media. I had finished my undergraduate and Post-graduate degrees, Cum Laude. And I was travelling the world raising awareness. The problem was, my faith was crumbling. I’d become something of an expert in ancient religions and cultures, but teaching Christians felt inauthentic. I needed something new. Well? Why not teach English again? Just until a writing job opened up. Cough- cough. Covid. Skip forward six years- two languages and a new continent and I’m here. A content creator/language teacher living in Poland hoping to publish the fantasy novel I’ve been working on.
