About Jasjit Singh

I am Professor of Religion and Global Engagement in the School of Philosophy, Religion, and the History of Science and Pro Dean International in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Cultures at the University of Leeds. My research focuses on Sikhs, examining chanding religious identities and processes of religious transmission. I was appointed the inaugural Visiting Professor in Sikh Studies at the National University of Singapore and am currently co-chair of the AAR Sikh Studies Unit. I have a strong track record of publishing and have published several academic journal articles and book chapters. I have also published newspaper articles and regularly appear on national and international media including on BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service, speaking about contemporary issues around religion in society. In addition to my academic work and media engagement, I regularly engage with local, national and international policy makers advising on Sikh issues. I have also been heavily involved in facilitating community / policy dialogue around education and hate crimes. My current research interest is in the intersection between the Sikh tradition and technology with a particular focus on the impact of Sikh digital media and the internet on Sikh ideas of authority, community and identity.
