Jasminder Sekhon is a leading expert in gender-based violence and policy, recognized for her intersectional, trauma-informed, and equity-driven approach. As the Director of Community Engagement, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Policy at Victim Services Toronto, she advocates for survivors while developing systemic solutions to combat human trafficking,"honour"-based violence, intimate partner violence, and sexual violence. Jasminder’s academic foundation includes an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Oxford and a double degree in Political Science and Criminology from the University of Toronto, where her research emphasized social justice and victimization. Jasminder’s professional contributions span roles in policy development, advocacy, and education. She has held pivotal positions at organizations such as Blue J Legal, the Ministry of the Attorney General, and Community Legal Education Ontario, and has designed and facilitated Ontario-wide training on human trafficking. Additionally, as CEO and Founder of GEquity Consulting, Jasminder leads data-driven initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her work has earned her notable accolades, including the 2022 Woman of the Year Award from the Women’s March Foundation. A survivor herself, Jasminder’s lived experiences as a South Asian woman shape her unwavering commitment to anti-oppression and cultural competency. Fluent in English, Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu, she bridges divides to foster understanding and inclusion.
