Grand Ancestor, LLC: In the hand-crafted fashion of the analog days, Grand Ancestor has assembled the only high-fidelity sound system of its kind for the modern listeners of Washington, D.C. Grand Ancestor is inspired by the community-centric traditions of the early-Jamaican and British sound system scenes, later influenced by the underground hip-hop and electronic cultures that captured the globe in the years to follow. Grand Ancestor Sound System is a custom-built, wooden, high-fidelity, mobile (modular), 18-cabinet sound system boasting a 50K-watt capacity. The system is imposing in both sound and stature with a spellbinding visual aesthetic to match its sonic superiority, measuring in at 10' tall and 10' wide. Rooted and grounded in the District of Columbia, Grand Ancestor Sound System is an active medium for the growth and diversity of the greater D.C. area music community. In 2013, Grand Ancestor debuted its roots, dub, digital, and steppers night,"Computa Age," showcasing its trademark sound throughout various music venues in our nation's capital. These events continue to thrive to this day under the Grand Ancestor moniker. The collective's dedication to hosting a diverse roster of local and international artists led Grand Ancestor founder, Jason Berto, to launch his vinyl-only record label, Grand Ancestor Records, in 2014. The D.C-based record label continues to flourish, with over records sold YTD, global distribution, and its next two records scheduled for release later this year. The sounds of Grand Ancestor continue to reach their global audience via their monthly radio show, “Dutty Mondays”, on the award-winning Sub.fm, celebrating its tenth year of broadcasting.
