Over my nearly 20 years of experience I have gathered the knowledge, relationships and experience to be a successful mortgage loan originator. If the story doesn’t make sense to the bank they aren’t going to lend you their money. Let me tell the bank your story. I speak their language. I began my career in the mortgage industry nearly 20 years ago when it was very easy to write a loan. Basically if you could fog a mirror you could get mortgage financing. Then 2008 happened and everything changed. The banks stopped lending money and business virtually disappeared. Many in the business left permanently and found new careers. Shortly after, new laws and guidelines were enacted that made it more difficult to obtain financing and loan originators were required to become licensed. We had to take courses and pass tests which we continue to do annually but also became subject to background checks and more. If we were to be responsible for helping a person arrange financing for what is likely to be the most expensive purchase of their lifetime, we should have some fiduciary duties. This again forced even more of the remaining loan originators out of the business as they were unable to or unwilling to go through this vetting process. I had a decision to make at this time.
