Background

About Jason Cain

Jason is passionate about making government work and has dedicated his life to public service. A United States Army veteran, Jason served with the 82nd Airborne Division and U.S. Special Operations Command where he was stationed at Fort Bragg for his entire 10-year enlistment. He deployed with his Army brothers and sisters on five combat tours to both Iraq and Afghanistan. Restoring trust in government has never been more important. Jason has served his country in uniform, in state and federal government helping protect veterans’ rights, and by defending our communities through battling the opioid epidemic alongside law enforcement. Jason knows and appreciates the importance of a quality education as both a current public-school educator and lifelong student. While serving on active duty in the Army, Jason earned his undergraduate degree from Campbell University between deployments, and gratefully earned two master’s degrees from George Washington University and Harvard thanks to the Post-9/11 GI Bill scholarship. When the opioid crisis hit our local communities, Jason knew his next assignment was to help wounded warriors and other close friends during this widespread epidemic. He assisted his mentor in the launch of a national nonprofit organization, Stop the Addiction Fatality Epidemic (S.A.F.E. Project), where he also helped lead a national movement to expand federal, state and local law enforcement pre-arrest deflection programs across North Carolina and the country. These life-saving initiatives provide law enforcement and first responders with the tools and procedures to direct those battling with substance use disorder into treatment and away from the downward spiral of the criminal justice system. Jason knows the addiction epidemic is a public health crisis that can only be solved by expanding access and reducing the costs of health care.
