I think construction, no matter how complex the project, is as simple as the client hires a designer and a builder and thinks all is solved. There should be no exclusions, exemptions, errors or oversights. As a Project Manager my start was in metro region high end residential with clients including Ziff, Dubin, Crown, Vidal and Burns. They were high powered individuals with high expectations and demanding projects across the board. I have always been able to engage with the Principal, no matter what league, and with the trades. My early Project Manager (PM) career was in the high end residential side there also Retail, Commercial and Healthcare projects. I was assigned roles including VP of Construction and Senior PM, eventually taking an Executive role with an international firm culminating in a CIO role converting a $35M company into a $135M company standardizing billing, pricing and documenting through Timberline. This project started on a skewed path based on a consultant's recommendation and the firm didn't have the infrastructure or personnel in place. I led the process by developing the network, collaborated with attorneys and accountants, and trained the Estimators, Project Accountants, PMs and Founders of the firm. Works In Progress (WIP) is essential information to leadership and was the ultimate goal at the start to grow it to the international firm it is today. Returning to New England my focus became more Commercial in nature, specifically Healthcare first as a CM and ultimately as OPM. And in the end it's still as simple as the client hires a designer and a builder and thinks all is solved, and with this builder it is.
