Objective 1: Understanding how life on Earth (or Mars/Europa/etc.) formed and evolved within a planetary context. This includes analyzing the organic chemistry of small molecules from extraterrestrial samples and field or laboratory analogs of these environments. Minimizing and understanding the contamination in such samples is key to maximizing the science.
