I believe the CIO role is responsible for understanding how ICT can enable an organisation to achieve its strategic objectives. From day to day operations to future planning, I see the role of the CIO as being the champion of innovation and coordinator of technology. As organisations face rapidly changing environments and disruptive technologies, the CIO is a key instrument in navigating both the threats and opportunities presented by an ever-evolving ICT sector. My MBA leadership specialisation allowed me to appreciate the benefit of having effective leadership. It helped me better understand my leadership style and appreciate how leadership affects your ability to manage people. I aspire to being an adaptive leader, as an adaptive leader is about follower empowerment, which I consider crucial to developing a sustainable organisation. With constantly increasing work demands and pressures, the ability to upskill and delegate to empowered followers is a sustainable model that benefits leaders, followers and the organisation. I am also a strong advocate of emotional intelligence awareness and training and believe empathy is a core value of good leadership.
