About Jason Malousek

I started my career in mental health immediately upon graduating with my bachelor's degree in psychology. I worked overnights at an emergency shelter for children and it was eye-opening to see these harrowing family stories up close and personal. I eventually secured a job working in the daylight(!) at a day treatment program and received my first taste of how therapy works in the lives of children and their families. I wanted to do that! I went back to school, obtained my masters in counseling and went to work. Little did I know that I knew very little. I was fairly certain that I needed more education and training to competent in this field and went back to school! After graduating with my doctorate and a PDC in marriage and family counseling, I started supervising community support specialists but continued providing therapy at a CMCH that serviced rural communities. I thought that I could have more of an impact with a leadership position and when the Clinical Director position opened up, I applied, and was offered the position. At the same time, I adapted our current training program for doctoral level interns into an APA accredited program. My side "jobs" consisted of leadership positions at KPA and teaching. Eventually with the mentorship of other KPA members I finally found a spot at CRH and really enjoyed the work I could do with our national Association. I have had the role of President of KPA a few times and currently I am the Council Rep for KPA, President, and FAC. I eventually shifted gears towards teaching, practicing on the side, and offering consultation/supervision towards accreditation and training future psychologists. At KCU, I have taught multiple courses in neuropsychology, social justice, identity development, theories, supervision, and substance use assessment and treatment.
