About Jason Mettmann

I save lives by leading communications strategies that change behavior and improve traffic safety. As a seasoned public affairs professional in government, I specialize in strategic messaging, media relations, and public safety communications. As the Communications Manager for the Utah Highway Safety Office, I represent the department as a spokesperson and lead media engagement efforts to promote traffic safety and statewide awareness campaigns. I have developed expertise in analyzing crash data trends and transforming them into targeted messages and campaigns that educate, influence behavior, and reduce roadway fatalities. My work bridges data insights with public-facing strategy, crafting high-impact messaging, navigating crisis communications, and building trusted relationships with media partners to ensure accurate, timely public information. With over fifteen years of leadership experience in public safety, 911 operations, Civil Air Patrol, and multi-agency coordination, I bring a tactical understanding of emergency communication and stakeholder engagement. Whether managing public information during high-profile incidents or leading statewide education initiatives, I thrive on delivering clarity and credibility for the agencies I serve.
